Emergentism

The practice · possible power meets actual power

Turn one decision
into a testable next move.

Begin with the Finity Card: name what is actual, keep the relevant possibilities open, choose one bounded review point, and act. The worksheet is offered for local testing with zero required belief; its comparative benefit remains unproven.

The Finity Card — frame one decision.

Possible power is not yet action. Actual power is not yet direction. Use these prompts to orient by the longest horizon you can responsibly model, then choose the shortest observable review point that can distinguish the move. Keep it reversible where possible; when no harmless reversal exists, use the smallest lawful commitment and make the remaining harm explicit.

THE FINITY CARD

DECISION What am I actually deciding?
ACTUAL What is true now, and what means are really available?
POSSIBILITY What remains genuinely open? What would change my map?
FINITY What longest responsible horizon must this serve—and what shortest
observable review boundary, reversible where possible, can return
an honest result without betraying it?
NEXT MOVE What is the smallest authorized real step I can take now?
SHARED VALUE Whose capacity may expand if this works? Who bears cost or risk?
RECEIPT What outcome will tell me to continue, revise, or stop? What
              residue remains?
[S] selected Lived Compass worksheet — not authorization or proven decision improvement [C] comparative benefit over simpler decision practices remains open

The strongest rival is a component-matched ordinary worksheet. Decision journals, OODA or PDCA loops, premortems, checklists, pragmatism, and systems thinking already cover much of this ground. Finity earns its name only if the combined attention to two horizons, actual means, authorization, affected bearers, residue, and correction adds value after its extra overhead.

Make a private two-face receipt.

Issue the commitment before acting. Return later to record what was observed, who paid, what surprised you, and whether to continue, revise, or stop.

Local only · no account · no transmission · no recommendation

Face 1 · commitment

Face 2 · observed outcome

This receipt is not authorization. High-stakes, irreversible, medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical decisions still require the relevant expertise, consent, and lawful process. Where every option harms, use the corpus's tragic protocol and preserve the residue.

Illustrative worked example — a decision aid, not evidence for the framework

DECISION Should our six-person team replace one weekly meeting
              with a written-update pilot?
ACTUAL The meeting takes 45 minutes. An async tool is available.
Two teammates depend on spoken clarification.
POSSIBILITY We may return focus time without hiding blockers.
FINITY Long direction: improve coordination across one quarter.
Short receipt: run a 14-day, opt-in pilot. Continue only if
at least 80% of updates arrive and no blocker is missed.
NEXT MOVE Draft the update template and ask all six people to amend
              the boundary before anyone commits.
SHARED VALUE The team may recover time; writers bear the new burden.
Spoken clarification and an immediate opt-out remain open.
RECEIPT Record delivery rate, missed blockers, time returned, and
each participant's verdict; continue, revise, or stop.
Residue: record any burden or lost live clarification.

The power pair

Φ₅: what could become real · V₄: what can act now.
Finity names the boundary where a present model and actual means can meet.

Optional further practices

These three exercises are experiments, not initiations, evidence, or requirements. Use, alter, or refuse them independently of the Finity Card and the wider worldview.

01

The sitting Pratyakṣa — the first-person anchor

A written map cannot substitute for present experience. The sitting is one optional check: stop reading for ten minutes and notice what the description leaves out.

How — ten minutes

Sit with eyes open or closed. Notice a sound, a breath, or the room before naming it. Then record what the description captured and what it missed. No metaphysical conclusion follows from the exercise.

02

The personal trial record A continuing correction ledger

Keep a ledger of claims you actually load weight onto. For each, write four things: its tier (how you know), what would change your mind (the kill criterion), what would upgrade it, and what survives if it falls. When a claim fails, strike it through, date it, leave it legible, and sign the verdict.

This adapts the discipline used by the public trial record to personal use. It is designed as a self-audit even if every metaphysical claim here is wrong. Whether it helps in a particular life remains a local result, not a guarantee.

How — one continuing document

Put newest entries on top. Preserve superseded entries with dates instead of silently rewriting the story. Review the ledger periodically; no ritual or permanent commitment is required. Copy the optional template below ↓

03

The dyadic check The ethic as a habit, not a theory

Before an act that matters, ask one question with two ends: does this move raise me—and raise what sustains me? Emergentism chooses this as a Justice test; it is not derived from multiplication. A gain that hides another bearer's destruction does not pass merely because the aggregate rose.

How — one question, two ends

i = you, at the scale being tested. H = the people and systems that sustain the move. If both sides cannot be preserved or raised, disclose the trade-off, obtain the required consent, minimize irreversible harm, and keep the residue visible.

Take it with you

The artifact — copy it, start today.

The second optional exercise as one copy-paste block. Paste it into any plain-text note and change its cadence to suit the decisions you actually revisit.

The dyadic check — pocket card

Does this move raise me — and raise what sustains me?
If not, name the trade-off, authority, affected bearer, and residue before acting.

Why these three

No belief required.

The Finity Card prompts a live decision and review point. The sitting asks what a written map leaves out. The trial record keeps revisions visible. The dyadic check asks who benefits, who pays, and what sustains the move. None of them asks you to believe the framework.

If the framework is right, the practices are one short path into a life. If the framework is wrong, they may still prove locally useful—but that is a result to test, not a benefit this page can guarantee. The offer is therefore: verify first, require no belief, keep only what survives use.

A practice receipt stays yours unless you choose to publish it. A public issue or receipt is a custody item, not private advice. Filing alone does not establish independent evidence, peer review, validation, or a claim-tier upgrade.
