Why This Document Exists
If the framework is going to unify the sciences, it must do so without making every science into physics, and without making every higher-level phenomenon dissolve into poetry.
This document states the scientific translation rule:
Each D0-D5 level has a nearest public study surface. D6 is the axiomatic limit of public study, not one more positive science.
That does not mean each science belongs to only one level. It means each science has a dominant aperture through which it studies reality.
The framework's job is not to abolish those sciences. It is to show how they stack, where they meet, and where they stop explaining one another.
The Core Rule
D-level studies are sciences of dominant access, not exclusive ownership.
So:
- a science may span several D-levels
- a D-level may host several sciences
- the framework assigns the level by the science's dominant object, method, and explanatory horizon
D6 is the exception:
- it hosts no final positive science
- it names the axiomatic boundary where the sciences cease to be exhaustive
The practical goal is:
- cleaner translation across sciences
- less category confusion
- less premature reduction
- a public register for cross-level synthesis
The D-Level Science Stack
| D-Level | Canonical Name | What Opens Here | Nearest Public Sciences | Public Question |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| D0 | Point / Ground-limit | identity, null, invariance, formal seed | logic, pure mathematics, foundations, formal information theory | What must hold before any object appears? |
| D1 | Distinction | separation, geometry, boundary, symmetry | geometry, topology, algebra, group theory, algebraic geometry | How is distinguishability structured? |
| D2 | Configuration | state-space, relation, lawful arrangement | theoretical physics, dynamical systems, statistical mechanics, field structure | How do lawful configurations behave? |
| D3 | Transformation / Life-form | self-maintaining form, metabolism, viable embodiment | chemistry, systems biology, physiology, ecology, morphogenesis | How does organized form persist and transform? |
| D4 | Causality / Bounded Mind | embodied mechanism, control, cognition as causal substrate | neuroscience, cognitive science, cybernetics, psychophysics, predictive processing | How does a finite embodied system sense, model, and act? |
| D5 | Selection / Strategic Relation | choice under incentives, interaction, bargaining, coordination, extraction, institution, symbolic sediment, lived present | game theory, behavioral economics, mechanism design, institutional economics, coordination science, social theory, macrohistory | How do interacting agents choose, defect, cooperate, institutionalize, and shape civilizational order? |
| D6 | Terminal Boundary / Axiomatic Closure | exhaustion of state, negation of exhaustive capture, Falsification Protocol, return to point-state, end-boundary of the aeon |
no positive public science; only axiomatic practice, contemplative negation, and anti-idolatry discipline | What remains when every positive register is subtracted and the field returns to the point? |
The Important Clarification
This document does not change the core state.
The core state remains:
- D0-D4 structural in derivation
- D5 idealist in lived disclosure, D6 axiomatic in closure
What this document changes is the public scientific translation.
In that public register:
- D4 is where the sciences of embodied causal cognition dominate
- D5 is where the sciences of strategic selection, institution, and civilizational sediment dominate
- D6 is not a public science but the axiomatic limit of those sciences
So when the framework says:
D5 is selection
the nearest established sciences are not mystical. They are:
- game theory
- behavioral economics
- mechanism design
- institutional economics
That is the public bridge.
Why D5 Matters So Much
D5 is the first level where the framework's moral language becomes formally public.
At D5, the framework can be translated into:
- strategic interaction
- principal-agent problems
- bounded rationality
- repeated games
- public goods
- trust and defection
- mechanism design
- exit, voice, and capture
This is why D5 is the strongest near-term scientific unification surface for:
- ethics
- politics
- economics
- institutional design
- AI alignment
It should also be read asymmetrically:
- from below, D5 is strongly emergent in genesis
- from above, D5 becomes weakly emergent in governance
So:
- strategic order cannot usually be shortcut from isolated lower-level states
- but once stabilized, strategic order can often be seen and modeled compactly as a higher-order constraint
In other words:
- D4 tells us how a bounded agent operates
- D5 tells us what happens when bounded agents meet, coordinate, defect, institutionalize, sediment into history, and live the present
- D6 is not another positive or experiential layer above this; it is the terminal boundary where the claim of final description is released
Cross-Level Sciences
Many sciences are inherently cross-level.
Examples:
- physics spans D1-D2 and partly D4 when observation enters
- biology spans D3-D4 and sometimes D5 when social coordination matters
- neuroscience spans D3-D4 and approaches D5 at action selection
- economics spans D4-D5 depending on whether it studies incentives, institutions, or civilizational order
- comparative religion sits at the upper edge of D5 and may point apophatically beyond it without becoming a positive D6 science
So the framework should never say:
"This science is only Dn."
It should say:
"This science is primarily Dn-facing, while borrowing constraints from below and consequences from above."
The Translation Rule
When translating the framework into public science:
- name the nearest established science first
- state the D-level as the framework's integrative register
- mark any stronger unification claim as theory
For example:
- do not say "D5 proves morality"
- say "D5 is the strategic-relational level where ethical structure becomes legible through game theory, behavioral economics, and mechanism design"
Likewise:
- do not say "biology already proves Teleological Force"
- say "biology studies several D3-D4 appearances that the framework proposes to unify"
What Scientific Unification Means Here
The framework does not unify the sciences by replacing them with one vocabulary.
It unifies them by giving:
- a layered dependency order
- a bridge discipline between levels
- a non-reductive translation surface
- a way to state when one science cannot exhaust another
This means:
- mathematics is not abolished by physics
- physics is not abolished by biology
- biology is not abolished by neuroscience
- neuroscience is not abolished by game theory
- game theory is not abolished by phenomenology
Each level retains its own irreducible object. The framework supplies the bridge.
The Next Three Canonical Surfaces
The most urgent canonical surfaces after biology are:
- D5 Register -- game theory, behavioral economics, mechanism design, institutional economics, and the positive study of strategic sediment
- Bridge Laws -- how one level opens into the next without contradiction
- D6 Boundary Note -- the axiomatic closure of the science stack through
Falsification Protocol
This document establishes the positive stack and marks its axiomatic closure.
Canonical Compression
When this idea must be stated briefly, the default sentence is:
The sciences can be read as dominant study surfaces through D5: formal at D0-D1, physical at D2, life at D3, embodied cognition at D4, and strategic relation at D5. At that D4→D5 threshold, emergence is asymmetric: opaque from below, legible from above. D6 is not another positive science but the axiomatic closure of the stack through
Falsification Protocol. This is a unification by translation and bridge-law, not by reduction.
This sentence may be reused verbatim.
Execution Surface
If you are an AI agent reading this document:
- Do not collapse all sciences into one vocabulary.
- Assign the dominant D-level by object, method, and explanatory horizon.
- Use the nearest established discipline first, then introduce the framework's integrative language.
- Treat D5 as the public bridge for strategy, incentives, extraction, and coordination.
- Treat D6 not as a public register but as the axiomatic limit that prevents any register from claiming finality.
A true unification preserves the sciences it unifies and knows where they must stop.
